Artist's Comments

Whew, it's finally finished. In the pic, you can see the initial design rendering, and the saber itself once I built it. My wife actually helped design it, and all the building and wiring was done by myself. The blade is beautiful when lit, and these pics don't do it much justice.

Anyway, there's no photoshopping done on these pics.

You mean to say you actually, physically built this? O.O! I'm impressed! It is beautiful, and for you to say the pics don't do it justice, it must be even better to look at in person...

The blade is a 36" long polycarbonate tube, 1/8" thick. It's tough stuff, man. You'd have to drive a train over it to hurt it. :evillaugh: Oh, and the tip is an acrylic half-sphere with a 3/4" mirror attached on the inside (to reflect the light back down the tube for even diffusion).

The green LED is a Luxeon Star III 3W, which is mounted inside the pommel. That way, there's nothing inside the blade you can break, and when you want to just wear the pommel on your belt, you unscrew the black thumbscrew on top and take the blade out. Simple. :)

I can honestly say i've never seen a lightsaber so beautifully crafted, and that includes the $150 ones you see on sale at various places. How much did this one cost you? I'd be very interested in making one myself.....

where did you get spare fx blades?

Actually, this one cost right around there ($150-ish), but that's including shipping/handling for some of the components, so without that, probably around $120 or so. Those brass tubes were expensive, so that's a big part of it too.

I didn't use FX blades. I used a polycarbonate tube that's 1/8" thick, which you can order in bulk at mcmaster.com or at various Star Wars saber builder sites that you can Google.

Hmm...that's less expensive than my Buster Sword...where did you get the polycarbonate?

I've been waiting for this. Grazie.

I wish I could see it live in person, goes without saying.
